Elia is invited as the first-ever Composer-in-Residence at the Zarya Center for Contemporary Art in Vladivostok. During March 2017 he will give lectures, master-classes, and collaborate with important music groups and art institutions of the city.

DOCUMENTARY FILM

with Mikis Theodorakis in Athens

Marios is the protagonist of a new Greek-German documentary film directed by Asteris Kutulas, together with Eleftherios Veniadis. It is dedicated to the symphonic and operatic work of Mikis Theodorakis, something that happens for the first time. Marios speaks about his work as a 21st-century composer and raises new insights and questions about Theodorakis’s work. Elia’s musicological research will be published by the leading German publisher Schott Music, Mainz. Two publications are currently in preparation: One book that concerns “The Concept of Polymediality”, which he has been developing since 2003, and an article entitled “Contemporary Music in the Context of Polymediality and Polyästhetics”.

Elia has been commissioned by the Miscelanea Guitar Quartet to compose a new work – PFEFFER (PEPPER) for guitar quartet and electric guitar. The premiere will take place in Autumn 2016. A European tour in several EU cities will then be announced.

ELECTRONIC MUSIC PROJECT

focused on analogue synthesizers 

Marios is at Angelic Studios UK for a collaborative project with Nick Elia. It is focused on analogue synths and organised noise (generated from a modular system as well as by processing location recordings). It involves a lot of experimentation from a production and technical perspectve as well as a level of improvisation. Amongst the rare synths used for this project are Jupiter-8, ARP2600, Odyssey, OB-Xa, SH-7, EMS Synthi AKS, Prophet 6, Prophet T8, Memorymoog Plus, Voyager, Source, Korg MS-20, OSCar and TB303. “ELPIS” IN SARAJEVO

at the Bosniak Institute

Elia is collaborating with the Sarajevo Music Academy (with, among others, the Kvintet Harmonika Klaster; Belma Šarančić Nahodović). “Elpis” (Hope), for accordion septet and percussion duet, will have its Bosnia and Herzegovina premiere at a gala concert on the occasion of the World Accordion Day on May 6, 2016. The performance will take place at the Bosniak Institute (image).
