ABOUT
All of the voices, instruments and automobile sounds join together to sound out a hymn to the automobile. The music rises up steadily and the story of the automobile peaks in the dawn of a new era in time: the time to invent the automobile anew.

ABOUT
This poetical transition is performed by the singers and rappers of a modern pop music band together with the choir, orchestra and percussionists. On the one hand it refers to the dream of Carl Benz to create an automobile and on the other hand this dream heralds the coming of a future of mobility.

ABOUT
I. Overture

The interlocking cog wheels of the interior mechanism of a large wooden clock inspired Carl Benz to invent the engine: different parts all turning at their own speed unite together in one single harmonic movement to create the whole. The rhythm of each clock is picked up by nine percussionsts and fused together – finally the choir joins in with the song “He loved Homer’s sun. But he also loved, more deeply than he realized, the sun of the present day…”

II. Act 1 – The Genesis

Benz created a new world with the invention of the automobile. “Out of the small and narrow to the great light beyond”, sings the choir. In the background wind machines create the sound of a wheel – the future era when individuals will move as they wish. And similar to a genesis, more and more elements join in to the music: the wheels, the horns, the doors, the trunk, the windscreen wipers and for the first time, the engine. The car has been born and with it a new sound.

III. Act 2 – Man and Machine

Now the interaction begins; full of rhythm the voices are treated like parts of a machine. Man dominates the machine. The tones complement and melt into one another while the choir sings Benz eulogies to the rhythm of the engine.

STAUBZUCKER

INTERPRET
Miscelanea Guitar Quartet, Salzburg
ABOUT
A virtuoso piece for guitar quartet that uses not only the instrument but also the instrumentalists to simulate percussion instruments. The composer creates a huge amount of possibilities to provoke specific sounds by using unusual playing techniques. The score demands 23 percussion instruments the sound of which must be imitated, thus documenting the complexity of this work and posing a challenge to its performers. Additionally the instrumentalists create sounds with their own voice and body by clapping, flipping and rubbing on paper.

soliloquy

INTERPRET
Kostas Tosidis, Guitar
ABOUT
SOLILOQUY mixes the tremolo, a typical element from classical guitar techniques with Jazz-elements. The title points on the dramatic art of a monologue that transcribes the author’s point of view. With the combination of the classical element of Tremolo, combined with elements of Jazz, the work is proving to be  highly unique.

MANEUVER

INTERPRET
Kostas Tosidis, Guitar
ABOUT
MANEUVRE deals with the change of tension and its release masterly shaped in its dramaturgical structure is designed to keep the listeners attention. Starting with violent dissonant chords followed by nervous tremolo and arpeggios the situation is cleared by a short interjection of a dolce flageolet. Tension rises several times generated with techniques such as Rasgueado, Bartok-pizzicato, etc. until the piece finally seems to disappear in silence.
